To begin, the bare fact of desire in the world organizes energies in new ways – desires set organisms to work toward things. Desire therefore brings whole new modes of being and moving into the world. Yearning, longing, striving, hoping, needing, wanting, lacking, missing, loving, trying, urging, and so on, ﬁnd places in the order of things where they were not before.
